Is music still music?

In todays topic I want to talk about... Music and how things are verses how they were

So to me, it seems like all you need now-a-days to get "BIG" in the music industry is a well rounded business mind state. Now it looks like most artist can do it all, from music to marketing all on there own with out the help from a "MAJOR" label. More artist are now emerging with highly creative and professional advertising & marketing schemes rather than fresh unheard music.

Look at music about 10-15 years ago, majority of those artists of that era only had to develop there musical talents(playing and singing.) As to where now the artists of this new era have to develop there own ad campaigns and marketing techniques.

I'm not "HATING" on any of the eras, all im saying is this... Now all a musician has to do to be the "NEXT" big thing is be efficient in promotional an advertising tactics, vs being a skilled singer or instrument player.

Maybe its just me noticing this, not sure... But please feel free to leave me your input on the matter in form of comment.

Also if you were a major label who would you sign? the guy with major music talent and no business intellect, or the guy that is kind of good with music but can market himself as a product for the mass public extremely well.
